TAMES WINS GOAL OF THE SEASON

Thursday April 25, 2013

Congratulations to Steven Tames, who has received the award for Goal of the Season sponsored by Trust in Yellow.

Tames’ stunning goal at Hyde in August, which featured a run from the half-way line and fine 30-yard  strike, was chosen by supporters in a closely-fought vote.

Steven was presented with his award after the final match of the season against Luton Town by supporter and Trust member Dale Martin.

Minutes of Trust in Yellow Board Meeting - Monday 15 April

Thursday April 25, 2013

Apologies: Paul I, Bill S.

1. Minutes of last meeting and matters arising

The end of season presentation will no longer take place to raise funds for the Kevin Lee Appeal. The Trust will contact the club with a view to arranging an event in its place after the Luton Town match.

2. Everton FC Lotteries

The Trust board was joined by Darrell Turton, the head of Everton FC Lotteries, which is looking to expand into areas such as Southport.

The Everton Lottery currently raises funds for Everton in the Community with a jackpot of £1,000 per week and two annual draws of £5,000. A number of local sports clubs and organisations, including Tranmere Rovers, are currently a part of Everton’s lottery.

The club has indicated that it would be happy for the Trust to pursue a lottery of its own and it was felt a partnership with Everton could be mutually beneficial.

Everton would canvass new memberships in Southport on behalf of the Trust and supporters would be able to join by standing order, both with a £1 weekly subscription. Donation starts at 60% of paid memberships which would include 40% to the Trust.

The running costs would be covered by Everton. The lottery in Southport would be specifically branded by the Trust with membership cards and advertising material.

The Trust would have to commit to a minimum term of one year. Everton would issue the Trust with a regular report and funds could be transferred to the Trust on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis.

Initial thoughts were positive and the Trust board will consider the material provided by Darrell. Funds would be raised for a purpose such as ground improvements, which could include things like the planned cleaning of parts of the ground this summer.

The club will be contacted to Inform them of our plans and also ask  whether it is able release details of members from the former Goalden Lottery.

The views of Trust members to be sought before a final decision is made.

3. Treasurer’s Report

Total funds are currently £24,519, including net funds available of £24,428.

Next match signs this season have cost £560, while £137 has been paid for sponsorship of the club’s match updates service.

Income from new and renewed memberships since the start of July amounts to £1,474, while the season’s coaches have run at a loss of £500.

4. Memberships

Memberships are still around the 230 mark.

5. Heart monitors, cleaning of the Jack Carr Stand and other matters involving the club

The club has looked but has been unable to find the missing straps for the heart monitors. Colin A has contacted individuals who may be able to assist with providing the straps so the monitors can be sold.

Colin A will fix a date for the cleaning of the Jack Carr Stand this summer, starting with the toilets.

6. Board membership policy

Supporters Direct has sent out five policies to be adopted by Trusts for the smooth running of meetings etc. The policies have been sent around the Trust board and will be adopted.

Any members wanting to join the Trust board will be invited to step forward in the next few months so they can be voted on at the AGM.

7. Fundraising / social events

It is hoped the cricket match will take place around 21 July and enquiries will be made with the Rookery.

Julia U has spoken to the club about the possibility of a special pre-season kit which would be sponsored and auctioned off for charity. The club has said it will consider this suggestion.

8. Any other business

£3,505 has been raised this season for the Kevin Lee Appeal.

The club has recently filed its accounts, showing a loss of around £65,000 for the season 2011/12.

9. Next meetings

5 June (board).

CHALMERS IS PLAYER OF THE MONTH FOR MARCH

Tuesday April 02, 2013

Aaron Chalmers has been voted the Trust in Yellow Supporters’ Player of the Month for March.

Chalmers, who has emerged as one of Southport’s most consistent performers in recent months, edged out Shaun Whalley and Godfrey Poku to win the award.

He received his presentation at half-time in the match against Alfreton Town on Bank Holiday Monday by Trust member Eleanor Taylor.

Since returning from a bad leg injury in February, Chalmers has established himself as a first-team regular, excelling after a switch to right-wing back.

He found the target in March in the defeat at Tamworth, adding to a fine free-kick scored against Woking the previous month.

Supporters will be able to vote for the final time this season at the end of April, with the presentation again made by a Trust member who votes for the winning player.

Minutes of Trust in Yellow Members' Meeting - Thursday 21 March

Minutes of Trust in Yellow Board Meeting - Thursday 21 March

Apologies (board members): Paul I, Bill S, Martyn O.

1. Minutes of last meeting and matters arising

The Trust has received excellent feedback following the presentation to Earl Davis, including from Earl himself. Colin A was thanked for helping to arrange the event.

Jonathan O’Byrne explained that the Kevin Lee appeal has effectively reached its target and will run for a second season.  Kevin has been absent from the club recently following a second operation.

The end of season presentation to support the appeal will take place after the match against Luton Town on 20 April.

2. Treasurer’s Report

The Trust’s current balance stands at £24,582, including net funds available totalling £24,448.

Next match signs for the season so far have cost £492, while coaches have run to 18 away games, making a deficit of £433, mainly due to the weekend visit to Lincoln.

Membership of Supporters Direct has been renewed for £100 and £117 has gone towards the sponsorship of the club’s live match updates service. The Trust has received a few donations from supporters in return.

The final couple of payments from the former players’ reunion have been received, meaning the event generated a total of £2,075.

3. Memberships

Memberships currently stand at around 230.

4. Discussions with the club, including floodlights, heart monitors and offer of help to clean parts of the Jack Carr Stand.

The Trust has been in recent contact with Charlie Clapham. He said the club would be pleased for the Trust to clean the Jack Carr Stand toilets during the summer and the floodlights project remains ongoing.

He said the club is continuing to balance finances as carefully as they can and can’t be seen to be diverting finance away from the playing budget.

There was no response to the points raised in relation to the club’s reluctance to go ahead with the suggested lottery.

Straps are still missing from the heart monitors and need to be found before they can be sold. Colin A has contacted running clubs and the manufacturer in relation to finding replacement straps, and the manufacturer will make further enquires.

5. Plans and ideas for 2013

The Jack Carr Stand toilets will be painted in the summer, sponsorship of the match updates service and Player of the Month award will continue, and the idea of developing a Hall of Fame / Legends will be looked into.

6. Fundraising / social events

Enquiries will be made with the Rookery and Ainsdale Cricket Club about the cricket match, which should take place between the middle and end of July.

The quiz night and They Think it’s all a Question of Sport will be arranged for next season.

7. Coach Travel

Thanks to Phil C for arranging the weekend trip and Lincoln City for recommending the hotel. Members considered the weekend a real success.

31 supporters travelled on the coach. Several fans booked with the hotel directly, which was not the intention as it meant the Trust lost out. This will be addressed for future trips. The weekend cost the Trust £374.

More bookings are needed for coaches to the away match against Gateshead, and for the special offer to Forest Green Rovers and Grimsby Town.

8. Any other business

None.

9. Next meetings

15 April (board).
