Disabled Shelter Project - Update

As many Members will be aware, the Trust began work on a Disabled Shelter Project (alongside a Bottle Bar) during last season and successfully ballotted members regarding the use of Trust funds to facilitate this. The Trust Board also secured an agreement from the previous Club Board to complete this, which obviously required renegotiation with the new Board.

After intitial discussions, the Club Board informed the Trust at our meeting in June that our funding would not be necessary for this project as they had manage to obtain private sponsorship, and that our funds could therefore be diverted to alternative projects.

The Trust Board had received a significant number of requests from Members for an update on this project and Board Member Howard Birch, who put significant time and effort into the research and planning for said project, contacted Adrian Shandley, the Board Member responsible for Special Projects, to ask for an update.

Howard requested if Adrian's response could be shared with Members, which he was happy for us to do in the complete and unedited form, as follows:

'Howard

Regards the Disabled facilities, to be honest I wasn't altogether sure why you are asking, but, for your info, all good thanks, we had an update last night, we have had a few delays due to holidays etc but all OK, planning is the hold up issue.

But, I have to say that as far as we are concerned, as a result of your actions, and your actions alone, this isn't really an involvement of the Trust anymore.

Your email of 1/6/17 called the funding into question, saying you would have to "go back to the members".

You confirmed this was the case in your email of 15/06/17 So I found an outside sponsor, which we informed you of at the meeting on 28th.

Then on the 20th, prior to the meeting of 28th, you sent an email which laid down a load of conditions. At that point, I have to say, we didn't think you were still providing funding at all!! Some of those conditions were not acceptable to us, and were unreasonable for the level of proposed contribution. (in your email 20/6/17)

And, by the way, it was clear those conditions had come from the Trust board, acting independently as always, they had not been drawn up after "Going back to the members"

So please rest assured we are now sorting it all out on our own, as quickly as outside forces can permit, but thanks for asking.

I am sure you will be pleased as this will free up more of your time to devote to other activities.

Best
