BOOTS FOR UGANDA
Southport FC and members of Trust In Yellow are this week preparing to send over 30 pairs of new reebok football boots to help youth football in Uganda. David Sheekey, a long term Southport fan from Ormskirk, will depart for Najjanakumbi, a suburb of Kampala on Wednesday morning, where upon arrival he will hand over the boots to his 17 year old step son Dennis Hata who helps to run youth soccer in the area. Najjanakumbi is a very poor area of Kampala and whilst many kids love to play football, very few have access to any equipment or kit. Dennis's mum Sarah, David's wife, founded a woman's cooperative on her families' return to Uganda in 2006 which is called the Najjanakumbi womans union. They make and export kitchenware and other traditional crafts - Many of the NWU's members are HIV positive or are widows either through HIV or armed conflict.
Exeter City have previously sent kit over to Kampala and in the coming weeks Southport FC are hoping to follow the boots with kit of their own. Who knows, maybe there will be a Southport v Exeter game in Uganda.
